Going Shopping for a Valentine's Day Present

Contribution by Terrance Kirby

Buying a valentine's day gift for a man is difficult. Women are easy - chocolates, jewelry, flowers, anything goes. In the past I've typically gotten my husband tickets to a game or a show or I've brought him out to a nice dinner. This year, however, I am making an attempt to give him a present to open on Valentine's Day. I got ready for a long day of shopping - grabbed my purse and a bottle of water, turned on the home security alarm (www.securitychoice.com/broadview-brinks-adt.html) at my house and got in the car to head to the mall. I walked around the mall a few times stopping in all different types of stores. I looked at clothes, wat! ches, sports gear and DVDs. Ufortunately nothing special stood out. It really is hard to buy for a guy! Finally my last stop was the counter at my favorite jewelry store. It is important for every business man to have a few sets of nice cuff links. I picked out two pairs - one gold and one silver and purchased them on the spot. Now, my husband does have cuff links, but now that he has two pairs just from me, I know he will think of how we spent our Valentine's Day each time he wears them!

Redo

The house we're moving into is quite small compared to where we are now. It's making me wonder how we are going to fit all of the furniture we have, which is old and kind of clunky. Sometimes I wish we could replace it all with modern furniture so it would be a lot more streamlined and thinner. I think there would be a lot more room that way. Instead we have to make do and are only able to get a few new pieces to replace the really big ones that we can't fit at all. I love being able to buy new things and change the look and feel of the room. Redecorating is so much fun!

Signs

DD has become a big fan of signage. She has to point out almost every "STOP" sign she sees and let everyone know there is one, you can imagine what that's like. LOL! The newest ones are exit signs. She's finally learned that they direct you to a door so she thinks she's one smart cookie now. It's kind of fun to see how she makes a game out of things like that, she especially likes the signs that are lit. I miss being a kid for reasons like this.

Generation Gap

It's funny when I talk to people younger than me about their childhood. I always forget what a difference a few years can make. While discussing things we wore and watched one of the younger kids mentioned that he wore shirts with wrestlers on them. I had totally forgotten about that time because I was already into other things. I think what's funnier is that most of the people in my generation still hang onto the shows we grew up with. He-Man, She-Ra and Transformers are almost ingrained into us and will always be a few of the coolest things ever.
